Some of the communal facilities have also been discretely placed away from the more public gaze. There’s a theatrette accessed via a second lobby that comfortably accommodates 10 people. With a retractable screen, it will be a popular place to entertain friends. Alternatively, this room can be used as another meeting place. Watching movies in what feels like gold-class cinema seating, or simply catching up with friends, K.P.D.O. were mindful of creating the excitement of getting together on a Sunday night before the week unravels.

Like the family room one left behind, the theatrette features dark timber veneer joinery and deep leather armchairs and comfortable lounges. Mindful of what goes with a night in front of a screen, the designers included an adjacent wine room, complete with its own kitchenette and dining table. “Residents can use this space for entertaining as part of the evening. But they may also want to start the night entertaining friends with some wine and cheese before they move into a more formal arrangement,” says Hamilton. And to ensure sufficient storage for resident’s wine, some of which may have been collected over years, K.P.D.O. included almost 100 hundred individual ‘cellarettes’ for residents.

But this wine room, unlike many cellars, isn’t buried down under. Framed by curvaceous timber walls, the elegant dining setting is ‘crowned’ by a vintage 1970s chandelier, suggestive of the building’s history.
