Apartment 321 not only enjoys unrivalled views from the living area, but in unexpected areas, such as from the ensuite to the main bedroom. These views have also been cleverly extended, with strategic placement of mirrors and reflective surfaces.

Planning is the first thing one notices about this apartment. There is a clear delineation between the main bedroom suite and the second bedroom.3 Combined with separate bathrooms for each, with the main bedroom having its own ensuite, there’s a level of privacy normally seen only in detached homes. For this apartment, approximately 90 square metres in area, there’s also separation between balconies4 (an additional 18 square metres), with the main bedroom and living areas enjoying their own private space.5

While planning is pivotal to the success of these apartments, the use of materials is unparalleled. Flamed granite features throughout the apartment, quarry-cut by hand. This granite is beautifully expressed on the vanity bench in the ensuite bathroom, complementing the terrazzo-tiled floors. As thoughtfully detailed is the use of smoked glass doors to create a subtle ‘veil’ to the separate toilet and shower. Storage is another feature that often takes a ‘back seat’ in apartment living. For this apartment, there are generous sliding drawers in the kitchen to store pots and pans.12 There is also an appliance cupboard, fully wired for the latest equipment.13 Gaggenau appliances14, an integrated dishwasher15 and a wider-than-normal island bench (approximately 800 millimetres) make cooking a pleasure. The latest technology and appliances are not only evident in the kitchen, but in the apartment as a whole, with smart meters allowing owners to check their energy consumption for their ducted heating and cooling.16 And few apartments have a separate laundry/mud room, complete with built-in cupboards.19

Quality abounds in this two-bedroom apartment, expressed both indoors and out. The outdoor terrace, for example, accessed through double-glazed sliding doors17 (for both acoustic and thermal qualities). There’s also the connection to gas and water to ensure fine alfresco dining. Mindful of people moving into these apartments with fine art, such as paintings, both track lighting and down lights have been included. Large expanses of walls also allow for larger artworks to find a suitable home18, competing only with the views of the park beyond.
